At the District 16 meeting in April, 2013, Tualatin VFW Post 3452 was selected to host the January 2014 meeting. Â This event is a gathering of post officers and VFW members from posts of Beaverton, Dayton, Hillsboro, Newberg, Tualatin, and Willamina.
At the December Tualatin post meeting, attending members approved to cater the required lunch for all District 16 attendees. Â Food was purchased from our neighbor, Mashita Teriyaki (mashitateriyaki.com). Â The food was excellent and donations returned most of the expense. Â There were 30 VFW members who enjoyed the meal.
The meeting was held on the post’s brand new rug. Â Thirty-six VFW members attended the meeting. Â Twelve were from Tualatin Post. Â All Tualatin Post officers attended with the exception of three. Â This was an excellent turnout.
Tualatin Post was recognized as the only post to have reached 100% membership for dues this fiscal year. Â A great accomplishment by all post members. Â Recognition awards were given to each post for recruiting new members. Â Three Tualatin Post members were given an award. Â Quartermaster Larry Howard was awarded for five new post members. Â All posts reported on their activity since the September District meeting. Â Commander Tony reported on several events the post has done during the quarter.
Dan Spaker, a retired Sergeant Major from the National Guard, was introduced as the new Commander for Beaverton Post 4617. Â This post was planning to consolidate with Tualatin post during 2013 but managed to get reorganized with the help of Department of Oregon officers and is now operating again.
The meeting went well. Â Next meeting will be held in April 2014 at Willamina Post 4211.
