The Men’s Auxiliary has been sending care packages to the troops through a local group called Mission Mahalo. If you’d like to volunteer by helping to pack boxes for care packages, then follow this info sent by Jenn Lamaye:
When: Saturday, May 31st, from 9-noon at the following address:
Where: King City Civic Association, 15245 SW 116th Ave, Portland, OR 97224
What:
We will unload and set up at 9am, and there will be many jobs for volunteers to be involved in before packing. (Taping and addressing boxes, organizing comics, unpacking cases of cookies…)
Around 10am, we will start packing the boxes with the cookies (and other patriotic items – the Scouts can bring items if they are interested in donating. Used Dvds, Beanie Babies, and magazines/puzzle books are always requested.)
While the boxes are being packed, I will have a few volunteers tape and attach custom forms and packing slips to the finalized boxes.
Near noon we will take photos of the boxes packed by the girls, and start loading them up into my Suv, hopefully the King City Lions’ trick, and any other vehicles that want to follow me to the Tigard Post Office to ship off the boxes.
The shipping process is a bit time-consuming because the post office needs to hand-stamp all six pages of the custom form for every package. Then they type in the postal code and print out the postage. It takes approximately two minutes per box. Anyone that wants to be involved in unloading the boxes at the post office and see what’s going on is invited, but I don’t have an itinerary for that portion of the day.
Thank you so much for the donation and assistance!
