National Purple Heart Day
Date: Aug 7, 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM
This day is remembered to honor all active military that were rewarded for heroism in a time of battle, and were wounded or died. All the way back in 1782 General George Washington issued the Badge of Merit for, “any singularly meritorious action.”
General Douglas MacArthur promoted for the Order of the Purple Heart. Up to 1944 the Purple Heart could also be awarded for commendable action, then the award was limited to those who were wounded or killed in combat.
