Alta Schubert-Miles

Alta MilesAlta (Schubert) Miles, past president of the Tualatin Major Axel Rasmussen VFW Auxiliary and a continuous Gold Circle Member since 1975, died March 17 in Lake Havasu City, AZ.

She was preceded in death by husbands Chester G. Schubert of Tigard, 32 years, and also William K. Miles, 19 years, also of Tigard and Redmond, OR.   Mr. Miles (Willie) was a US Navy Veteran, past commander of the Tualatin Post and Cootie organization.

Mrs. Miles was born August 3, 1921 in Bassett, NE., and after high school graduation and the death of her mother traveled to Portland, OR., with family where she worked for a doctor and later the Shipyards.

She was a resident of Tigard for 46 years, during which she was a homemaker and retired from Viewmaster/GAF after 30+years.  She was a member of the local Soroptomist, volunteered for the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and Meridian Park Hospital.   As a couple, she and Willie were involved in the many VFW events and activities including post breakfasts, dances and dinners, hospital visitations, poppy sales and the annual Crawfish Festival parade and food booth.

In 1991 they moved to Central Oregon and Mrs. Miles returned to work in Security at the Bend/Redmond Airport and retired (again) as department supervisor before selling her home and moving to Medford.  While in Redmond she volunteered for the local chamber of commerce and Hospice and Deschutes County Court System.

In addition to her volunteer activities, Mrs. Miles enjoyed her family, camping, fishing and hunting as well as travel by RV, cruising and trips to Spain and Hawaii.

She is survived by four children:  Donna (Andrew) Kroo of Redmond, OR;  Pamela (Mick Tilton) Pearson of Medford, OR;  Larry Schubert of Lake Havasu City, AZ;  and William (Mike) Schubert also of Redmond;  and Stepdaughter Sheila (Allen) Leverett of Gasquet, CA.  Seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive.

Services are pending this summer at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland.

  1. WOW — while raising a family and working full time this woman still had time to serve as an officer in many clubs and organizaitons – all of a philanthropic nature. From spearheading Rose Blossom Parade floats, to donating over 18 gallons of blood to Red Cross to becoming a Part-Time Clown for children’s parties — always in constant motion. The world is a better place because you shared your time, mom —- with love, honor, respect and a whole heart of missing you, Pamela

  2. Time somehow does make missing you any easier but we have peace in knowing you know how very much you were love, honored and respected. So proud to have been your Daughter and share in your many life achievements. Your love, your spirit, your spontaneous sense of humor we will always cherish. In our hearts forever,
